Skeena heARTISTS - Mitchell Brager

For its 3rd year, the Skeena Salmon Arts Fest (SSAF) is back with a new art show to foreground care and compassion during the pandemic. The Skeena Salmon heARTs Show is an exhibition and online fundraising auction of works on wooden hearts at three galleries in the Skeena Watershed: Terrace Art Gallery, Misty Rivers Arts Centre and Smithers Art Gallery. The auction runs from August 1-30th.

We partnered with the SSAF this year to showcase the artwork of four local artists on our Headwaters label.

The final submission, selected by the SSAF Committee is Mitchell Brager's A Colourful Fish.

Artist's Statement:

Mitchell is a young man with autism who loves to draw. Autism makes it hard for Mitchell to interact with his peers, but his artwork is a way for him to connect with people. Mitchell is very literal in the way he draws, paints and names his creations.

About Mitchell Brager:

Mitchell is a young man with autism who has always found drawing and painting to be a very calming outlet.  Laura and the Terrace Art Gallery have been very kind and accepting of Mitchell and allow him to use the gallery as his studio. In turn, Mitchell and his mom volunteer at the gallery and regularly deliver all the art exhibition flyers around town. Mitchell comes at least once a week to set up a table and bring his paints and canvases out and draw and paint to his heart's desire. If you are ever at the gallery when Mitchell is there, you will see how focussed he is when he’s doing his art. All of Mitchell's paintings and his daily adventures can be seen on his Facebook page:  Art by Mitchell and his Instagram page: @artbymitchellbrager
