For its 3rd year, the Skeena Salmon Arts Fest (SSAF) is back with a new art show to foreground care and compassion during the pandemic. The Skeena Salmon heARTs Show is an exhibition and online fundraising auction of works on wooden hearts at three galleries in the Skeena Watershed: Terrace Art Gallery, Misty Rivers Arts Centre and Smithers Art Gallery. The auction runs from August 1-30th.
We partnered with the SSAF this year to showcase the artwork of four local artists on our Headwaters label.
The first submission, selected by the SSAF Committee is Leah Pipe's The Heart of a Raven.

Artist's Statement:
Ravens are an integral part of our northern landscapes, they call out to us each day & remind us that we are not alone- they are here with us, watching from nearby trees, skies, and dreams. —
Leah Pipe is the fourth generation to live in the Hazelton area. Her Great-Grandparents emigrated to the northern region from England and she has made the north her home for over 20 years. she is greatly inspired by the rich first nations culture, the vast mountainscapes that surround her home and the open, pristine watersheds that host amazing and abundant wildlife.
Pipe's work grasps the beauty of Natural British Columbia and the West Coast, found in its smallest of details. It's the raven's eye, the caribou's antler tips, the stalk of a feather that captures her attention. Pipe aims to bring these overlooked details of our west coast lives into focus with minimalist backgrounds and careful portraits, mixing a traditional subject matter with a modern edge.
